What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
3rd Annual Holiday 5K Run/Walk

What type of product or service do you offer?
The Holiday 5K is an annual running race held along the Esplanade in Boston. All of our events raise money for cancer charities; the Holiday 5K benefits the Faulkner Hospital Breast Health Center.
How long have you been in business?
We've been doing races for 4 years; this will be the 3rd Annual Holday 5K.
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
Our events are well organized, lots of fun and donate all the proceeds to charity. Our current event logos are very amateur (designed by me) and this is the first logo we'd like to "professionalize." We'd like a logo which hopefully tells some of our story to attract more participants and sponsors to our events.
What are your long term goals?
Grow this and our other events, hopefully developing a consistent style with our event logos. (see http://runagainstcancer.org for our other events)
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
Thursday, August 18th
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
This logo will be targeted to runners and charity walkers in the Greater Boston area.
Who would you like to add to your audience?
Walkers. The first two editions of this event only had the 5K run; this year we're adding the walk.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
It should be simple, expressing the holidays, running, walking, Boston (maybe?) and possibly fundraising as well.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Green and red are obvious choices. Maybe some pink too? (breast cancer)
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
I think our runner icon should be somewhere in the logo; it's growing into our trademark.
No photos, but perhaps an illustration of:
Boston skyline?
Boston Hatch Shell on the Esplanade?
Tricorn Hat?
Zakim Bridge?
or something else which says "Boston"?
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Holiday fun, charitable, professionally organized.
What is your tagline or slogan?
While we (RACE) have a slogan, I do not think it should be incorporated into this event logo. Anyway, the slogan is "Kick *** Events to Kick Cancer's ***"
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
Join us on the Esplanade for the Holiday 5K Run/Walk on December 11th, 2011!
Where will your new logo be used?
On banners, posters, rack cards, tshirts and the event website.
Competitive Positioning:

What sets you apart from your competitors?
We donate a majority, if not all proceeds to charitable causes. Many of our competitors donate a very small percentage of proceeds.

Thank you for submitting a design! I love the ideas you designed for the summit/crossroads project but this one, not so much. I'd be thrilled if you took another stab, but understand if you can't and appreciate that you've shared your creativity with us.

Hi Yannick. Thanks for submitting this design. This idea is a bit too text-heavy and the name is not represented the way we'd like. With that said, it's balanced nicely and the pink square looks good, but we're going to pass on this. Thanks for taking a shot at it!

Hello Dewa. Thanks for submitting your idea. I like this logo but feel it's too Boston and not enough holiday. Perhaps a color change would be enough, or maybe I'm looking for some artistic elements. We'd also like a design which can be easily update in future years; the way you've got "3rdAnnual" makes that difficult. Finally, I'd like to see a stronger connection between "Holiday" & "5K"; right now, "Holiday" seems more connected to "3rd Annual." Would you consider playing around with it based on this feedback? THANKS!

Hi Dewa. Excellent progress. Quick question: is it clear to you that "Holiday" refers to the Christmas holidays?
After seeing your two designs, I'm wondering if either 1) you do not want to use red & green or 2) you interpret "Holiday" as "vacation", since that's how the term is used in the rest of the world. Also, I'd prefer the bottom of the logo ("run-walk") be level. Could you adjust?

could you possibly consider one additional adjustment?
i'd like to see the 'o' in holiday replaced be either a wreath with a bow or a christmas ornament. could you try that to see if it looks good? (your opinion is much appreciated too.) thanks!!

sorry for the delay in responding; i really appreciate that you've added the wreath! even after a few days, i remain undecided on which version to use so am requesting that you include both versions in your file. please include all 3 fonts as well. (unless "holiday 5k" is freehand)

dewa: we think it's the bow which is throwing us off w/ the wreath. if not too much trouble, could you please remove the bow and add a ribbon in its place? THANKS!
