Thumbs up Due: Mar 9 - Logo for Grassfest, LLC - $200

Admin code added by Abby - 139871112E104215D

We know what you all are thinking..."not another [expletive] lawn care logo!" Tis the season you know.

Anyway, we are Grassfest, LLC, a professional grounds keeping company. We do not do landscaping nor are we merely a grass mowing service. Imagine if you were super rich and needed a full time grounds keeper for your 10-acre estate, we are the alternative to a full-time staff.

Below is our project sheet and we look forward to working with the design team.

We have looked through the archives and realize there are many great designs that were passed over and suspect we will see some of those resurface.

Now on with the show!

Design Outpost Creative Brief Worksheet

Project Summary:

What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Grassfest
What type of product or service do you offer?
Professional grounds keeping
How long have you been in business?
Startup
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
Convey a sense of professionalism and trust
What are your long term goals?
To expand into other regional markets
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
March 9, 2007
Audience Profile:

Please describe your existing audience
Customers requiring the services of a professional grounds keeping company
Who would you like to add to your audience?
Homebuilders, Apartment Communities, Condo Associations, Realtors
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:

What type of logo would you like?
Something clean and professional. It should look equally attractive in full-color and black-and-white.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Shades of green with complementary color(s) or something bright and festive. On the one hand, we want to attract more commercial customers and therefore want a more conservative look. On the other, we like the “fest” concept in our company name and wouldn’t mind playing up that instead.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Nothing specific that we want to see, but do not want to see trees (as we are not a landscaping company) nor lawnmowers (because we do more than just mow grass). It would be interesting to see grass elements commingled with party elements a la “grass”-“fest”.
Communication Strategy:

What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Quality work and professional service
What is your tagline or slogan?
Originally we were going to use “A party on your lawn” but now we have settled for “Professional Grounds Keeping”.
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
We want to convey professional service, reliability, and trust.
Where will your new logo be used?
Stationary, Print Media, Clothing, Vehicle Signage, Promotional Giveaways, Electronic Media
Competitive Positioning:

Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Competitors include large landscaping companies, small owner-operators, that kid next door, and do-it-yourself homeowners. Most use stock graphics and/or simple text logos.
List competitive URLs if possible
http://www.trugreen.com
http://www.carolinaoutdoorcare.com/
http://www.hammerstonelawncare.com/
What sets you apart from your competitors?
Most competitors offer just chemical applications or mowing. We offer a full range of services throughout the year. In addition, we are locally owned and operated whereas most large competitors are based elsewhere or are a franchise. Lastly, we work with our sister companies to offer complimentary services in a single marketing campaign.
Targeted Message:

State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Quality

Additional thoughts:

We thought it best to share a few assumptions with the design team so they know where to look for creative inspiration.

Since we are a year-round company, we don't mind playing up the four seasons motif.

Feel free to focus on either the grass or the fest (or both) in Grassfest.

The text can be Grassfest, GrassFest, all upper case, or all lower case. We do however want it to be a single word.

Graphic elements can focus on initials (G or GF), lawns, festival motifs, or something truly inspirational.

Disclaimer: My partner is making me insert this next paragraph

Because we are located in Durham (a college town) and surrounded by Chapel Hill and Raleigh (both college towns) we will even consider a double entendre logo for "grass"fest within reason. He liked the ideas submitted for another company here playing on the owner's name (Stoner).

Competitor Logos:

These folks do not have websites per-se but advertise via electronic Yellow Pages. As you can see, there is not much there to catch the eye.

Other Logos We Like:

These are logos that contain colors, fonts, or design elements my partner and I both liked.

Logoholik: Thanks for your submissions. We like V2/V3 graphically. In V2 the green is a little dark. Can we lighten the shade a bit? Also, for both versions, can you add a tagline of "Professional Grounds Keeping"? Lastly, we may play with the fonts and colors a bit but we are digging this so far.

Senter: Thank you for your submission. This design isn't really grabbing us. Do you have other concepts you wish to submit?

Logoholik: You are making it tough on us! We like both V5 and V6. However, on V6 we would like the tagline to be all one color please.

Doug: We like the four seasons concept you are going for with the leaves, but they don't seem to mesh well with the text. Perhaps a different font or different graphic placement?

Pracus: We are definitely feeling this because of the grass motif. The "G" is not really grabbing us though. Perhaps a different font or graphical element?

CBaker14: We like the grass motif and the font in "fest" however everyone we've shown this too immediately says this reminds them of the logo for Food Network. Do you have other ideas?

Thanks for all the great submissions! A note for the design team, if possible we would like to incorporate "grass" as a graphical element. However, it is not a strict requirement as we are a full service grounds keeping company. For example, Logoholik's submission focuses more on the fun festive nature of the company name.

The inspiration for this was the "FourthFest" events with fireworks, etc. I used the grassblades to allude to fireworks and wanted kind of a festival poster look.

BlueCherryGraphics/Jennifer: This is awesome! We like the colors, the graphics, the fonts, and the theme! Our only request is, can we see variations with the tagline (1) as a single line (2) as two lines of equal spacing?

Logoholik: I love this design personally, but my partner has some reservations. Can we keep this one in the mix but possibly get an additional concept too? Perhaps something similar, but changing the graphic somewhat to be more "grassy". (Like any partnership, we don't always agree. )

BlueCherryGraphics - We like the feel of V3 the best. The only changes we would like are: move the tagline up just a hair so there is an equal amount of black space above and below it, and make the tagline color solid white.

CBaker14 - Thank you for this submission but it is not quite what we are looking for.

Logoholik: I still like V6b the best. The only change I would consider for this would be to (maybe) space the tagline slightly so that the P in Professional aligns with the R in grassfest. However, V8 is nice too. I think we should lose the grass blades on the graphic and have the tagline width match the width in GRASSFEST.

Thanks all for your brilliant contributions!!!
