Hi Designers!
I've spent a few days looking at the great designs here on DesignOutpost. I really like the quality of work that comes from a group of such talented designers. Great work to you all!
Here's my contest:
This contest is for a logo design.
UPDATED (September 9): The business card layout and letterhead layout are no longer part of this contest. This contest is for the LOGO ONLY!
I'm starting up a new Internet Services company called "SitePop." The URL is sitepop.com. This company will primarily start with web hosting services but will expand to other web and Internet services in the future.
SitePop's primary goal is to get websites up and available on the web and help "popularize" them through different marketing strategies. The idea behind the name has to do with things like "Site Popularity," "Site Popping-up" and/or "Site Population." (Cheesy, I know, but it's just to give you an idea of what the intentions are for the name).
DESIGN GUIDELINES
The website for sitepop.com may look similar to the following**:
more website images can be seen here.
**Note: This website layout is a suggestion only! Please don't be confined to basing the logo on this website layout. I would much rather change the website to suit the logo than cater the logo to suit the website. If you have an idea for the sitepop logo that doesn't necessarily suit this website layout, please still submit it for consideration.
The logo will likely go somewhere in the area where it says "COMPANYLOGOTYPE," but I would like it so that it can be modified to go on a white/light background. For example, I may choose to put the logo where it says "www.companyname.com" (light grey background) instead.
I'm looking for a clean and professional (not too busy) looking logo that is anywhere from 2-4 colors.
I would preferably like the font to be sans-serif, like Tahoma or Univers, but I'm open to any type of font if it fits. I'm not sure if I'm going to go with "SitePop" or "Sitepop" or "sitepop" (all small caps) for the logo. Maybe you can suggest which one looks better.
A logo that I really like that I saw on this forum is the "everymessage logo" won by Raja. (See subject "New Product Logo $75" started by "dbirchmore").
Another logo that I like: http://inverse-logic.com/
All final materials need to be in vector format, preferably .ai (Illustrator) format.
If you are interested in participating in this, please let me know and I will determine an appropriate end date based on the number of participants (likely to be sometime late September).
Thanks for your consideration!

Hey dynagirl. Thanks for the submission!
Of the three logos that you posted, I like 1-C the best, the solid orange in the symbol catches my eye, but I was hoping for something a little more dynamic for the symbol if the typeface is going to be a clean sans-serif font. That, combined with only one color sets the logo up to look a little plain and overly simplistic for my tastes.
One thought I had for the symbol of this logo might be a spring (a coil spring) that represents springing up or popping something up (hence, sitepop). I'm not sure how it should look exactly, but it might be an idea that can be used for the symbol. This is only a suggestion.

Thanks for the submission Ryan!
The logos don't quite work for me though. I'm looking for something a little more dynamic, especially if the text is going to be straight forward sans-serif, I'd like the symbol to be a little more fancy. An alternative would be to use a more stylized and fancy font to balance out a simple symbol, but I think I would prefer it the other way around.

Hi Taldo. Thanks for the submission!
To me, this logo looks very traditional and reminds me of a logo for a traditional brick and mortor corporation (banks, insurance, etc.). This is not the image I'm looking for. I'm looking for something more modern, which I think is why I sway towards a sans-serif font. My tentative choice of the website layout (see the image in my first post in this thread) closely reflects the style I'm after: forward moving, modern, fresh and tech savvy.
Dynagirl, to me, the colors and the symbol of your logo look youth/child oriented, which is also not what I'm after. For some reason the symbol reminds me of a little bird (maybe I saw a similar symbol on a kids show when I was young).
Here's a short list of logos that have the style I'm looking for:
http://www.jubjub.com/
http://www.pixelwurx.com/
http://www.connxus.com/ (nice logo, poor website)
http://www.inverse-logic.com/
everymessage.com logo design from this forum (see first post in this thread)
Hopefully this gives a better idea of what I'm looking for.
Thanks!

Hi all! Thanks for all the logo submissions.
dynagirl, the symbol that you created in sitepop #3 looks good, I'm liking it, but can you tell me what ideas you had in mind when you created it? I think it can still be tweaked a bit to look even better, depending what you had in mind. The dropshadow with the 3D is a little much though.
Taldo, the logo is not what I'm looking for. Take a look at the links of logos I like in my previous post. They are a good indicator of the style I'm looking for.
Ryan, this logo is definitely moving in the direction of what I want. Of the three logos you submitted, I like the top one. It's very clean. However, I'd still like to see something closer in style to the logos I linked to in my previous post.

Contest close date has been set for September 25, 2003 at 3:00 pm. It may end earlier if there's a clear winner.
Can someone try the spring (a coil spring) idea for sitepop's symbol? I was thinking some type of coil spring would make a great symbol for this logo. The idea behind it is to "spring up" or "pop up." It would be nice to see more submissions of this if possible.
I was thinking of an upright funnel shaped spring (kind of like a tornado) that isn't too complicated or busy. Just an iconic/symbolic spring sitting upright that maybe looks like it's got some flex to it (energy). Here are some real pictures of coil springs that might help inspire:

| QUOTE (sitepop @ Sep 8 2003, 12:03 PM) | dynagirl, the symbol that you created in sitepop #3 looks good, I'm liking it, but can you tell me what ideas you had in mind when you created it? There are 3 basic elements to the symbol: 1. the letter S, 2. popping-up, 3. population growth. The overall symbol shape is an abstract S with a counterclockwise turn to it. The tilt/angle it's on gives it a sensation of moving upward (popping up), and the pointy wedges in the center represent population growth--more people coming to a site.
The drop shadow can be dropped, of course. I was just trying to show you the symbol in a few different ways. But did you have any other ideas on how you might like to see it revised?

dynagirl.
I like the abstract 'S'. I was thinking of defining it more though. Looking at the 2D versions, can you try making the 'S' more defined so that it doesn't look so "fat" (perhaps take the mid-section of the S in a bit so that it's not the same width as the top and bottom of the S, this might be done by curving in the middle of the S more)?
Also, I don't know how this will look, but I'd like to see how the symbol looks in "swoosh" form. Basically, make the outer two lines look like swooshes. Either that or make them a little thinner.
Was this clear as mud?

I probably should not be posting on this board since it does not really pertain to me, but I notice my company name was listed in the "examples" of logo's that Sitepop likes.
I am the owner of Connxus. I know my website is a bit under par, but I just thought I would throw up a post to let all of you know that I will be submitting the following over the next couple of weeks..
Logo Design
Letterhead
Business Cards
Website Template
Sitepop - Appreciate the feedback on the site... I know its very crude and needs a lot of help.
Good luck to you, and as a note to the designers... GREAT WORK!
I look forward to working with all of you soon -
Regards

Connxus, I can't remember how I stumbled on to your site, but it was while I was looking for the style of logo I wanted. Your logo is great and that's why I posted it up as an example of one that I like. Your website is not bad, but I was being ultra-critical at the time since I was critiquing logos. Please accept my apology if it has offended you in any way.
I'm happy that you have found such a wonderful resource as DesignOutpost to help you in your business endeavors. Best wishes to you!

No harm no foul. I knew that the site was in dire need of being re-designed...
Have a great day, and I look forward to seeing your final logo up and running! It's a very exciting time when you see your ideas come to fruition!
Best of luck to you in your business!
Regards,
Connxus

dynagirl, I think you'll agree, your original looked much better...
Ryan, it took me a little while to get into your design, but I'm more and more intrigued. What did you have in mind when you were designing it?

After some thought, I've decided to change this contest and make it a logo design contest only. The business card layout and letterhead layout are only secondary in this design process and I may put up another contest in the future to design these. But for the present time, this contest will be for a logo design only!
The business card layout and letterhead layout are no longer necessary.
This will hopefully give designers that have passed off on this contest some incentive to submit a logo and reduce the amount of work for all designers.

Not sure if this is the sort of thing you are looking for...
Apologies not the fonts you asked for.

Hi sitepop,
thanks for the invite, sorry didn't have a lot of time to work on it but here's a try... I'll have a deeper think about this.
