Oct 1 : $210 : babelon intellectual asset management
Admin code added by Abby - 2LL97349VL287830P
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
title: babelon
subtitle: strategic intellectual asset management
What type of product or service do you offer?
consultancy on IP (mostly patents) to small start-ups and median size technology firms. We do the stuff that patent attorneys fail to do in terms of strategic advice: how to position development projects and their protection by patents, integrate the work from an idea to a fully financed and patented development.
How long have you been in business?
starting now.
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
convey notion of reliability, seriousness, pragmatism. At the same time we do not want to appear like a buch of stuffy patent lawyers but transmit a notion of freshness.
What are your long term goals?
Attract a reputation as the people to talk to before starting a business in technology, or a project in an existing technology business, across Europe.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
Would like to start as early as possible. 2 weeks max.
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Scientists and engineers at university, small and median businesses, tech transfer people, some venture capitalists
Who would you like to add to your audience?
more of the above
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
pragmatic, simple, serious, maybe a touch of technology if that can be combined (seriousness is top priority). Since we work in patents, and the standard font favoured by the European Patent Office is a monospace font like courier, that might work well. Then again, we are open to any suggestion.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Logo must work on web page, letterhead, fax, so some contrast is necessary and if colour is used, it must be seen on a b/w print. Green is not a favourite.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
no
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Again: pragmatism, reliability, seriousness
What is your tagline or slogan?
we do not have one yet. Babelon was conceived as a name because we live and work in Barcelona, Berlin and London, speak different languages both in terms of tongue and technical background, and the entire problem of doing the right thing in technology protection has a lot to do with translating between the engineers, the attorneys and the financial guys.
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
Let us show you how to bring your invention to the world.
Where will your new logo be used?
website, letterhead, business cards, brochure.
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Consultants such as patent attorneys, financial advisors to start-ups
List competitive URLs if possible
What sets you apart from your competitors?
we provide a holistic approach instead of looking at technology, legal and financial matters separately. Please do not try to express this in a logo.
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
we help inventions become reality.
thanks a lot for your interest and suggestions!

thanks a lot!
thanks a lot for the draft! Would it be possible to try the logo with a non-capital "b" to start?
The colour is cool. What is the sign to the left meant to transmit?
I will be back online on Monday.
Have a great weekend!

v1 This is a abstract representation of asset management and an allusion to the registered trademark symbol.

Great work! Thank you very much for the proposed designs!!
I really like the idea about the registered trademark symbol. Version 3 however may make it hard to add the actual trademark symbol, as may be necessary (the trademark is under application).
Of the versions, I like the first the best on instant reaction, but when I look at it longer my seventies childhood comes back with a vigour. Do you think there is a way to make it a bit more, say, timeless?
Best, claas

Thanks a lot! The "B" symbol you are using reminds me of a trademark I have seen somewhere. I have no idea where, and it may be a symbol indigenous to Berlin, where I live and work, but I would be wary to use it lest someone else feel we were using their IP. That would be a bit ironic given our field of business.
Maybe I will remember where I saw that symbol; meanwhile, if any other similarly forceful symbol occurs to you, I would be happy to see it!
Many thanks and all the best

to version 2 of logoholic: thanks a lot, that is a very original idea! I like the lighthouse feel of it; it is a forceful symbol. One thing that I wonder about is the fact that the second line ("intellectual asset management") is not in line with the first line. Do you think that there is a way to align them? Maybe move the "b" symbol up onto the line and let the second line run under it? Great work, anyhow! claas

Thank you for the feedback. Please let me know if you remember where it is used. After you said, I also felt like remembering.
Here is another concept which involves a "b".

Thanks a lot. The Giant logo looks very professional. I will show this to a group of people who are familiar with what we want to do; this logo will certainly be considered. Version 2 seems to allude more to the technical field we are in; the B might be a beaker or a wheel, so I think that will turn out to be a stronger entry.
Nothing I can think of that could be improved on; thanks a lot!

Very, very impactful. Thanks a lot. btw, I showed the earlier 7o retro version to others and they corroborated the feeling that the version reminded them of a known logo. It may have been an east german design.
As regards version 3, this certainly brings across everything we intend to do; freshness, allusion to intelligence, an impactful image.
The only concern that might still persist are technical, as for instance aligning the subscript with the large babelon logo. I have not participated in competitions here before, so I am not sure at what stage this is done.
As posted before, I will now submit the entries/versions that I believe capture what we want to do to a few people familiar with our product and ourselves, and a decision will be taken on the last versions soon.
Thanks a lot for this incredible outflow of creativity to you all.

Logoholik, thank you very much. This has been an impressive process for me. After seeing the total of the 5 entries, I think that no 3 is perfect among your designs. The entry balances freshness and timelessnes in a striking way. As written in previous posts, I will submit this to a number of people familiar with our plan and decide on Monday.
Thanks a lot. Phantastic work.
