Just wondering what do I have to do to be able to enter the contests around here - what do I have to prove?

I'm assuming you applied to be on the team. I try to reply to everyone but I get so many. Look over our rejection letter. Maybe one of these things was the problem...
Quote:
Hello,
Thank you for your recent application to become a member of the Design Team at Design Outpost. While we appreciate your interest, we are sorry to say we are not able to invite you at this time.
Your application was declined due to one or more of the following reasons. If there is a star next to the number, that is the specific reason...
1) Incomplete application, missing either full name, age, portfolio url, etc.
2) We currently do not have a need for designers with your particular specialty
3) You are under the age of 18 and are not able to be held liable in the event of a lawsuit
4) Your skills are not up to the high standard we look for in potential members
5) Lack of enough items in your portfolio or no portfolio of your work to help us make an informed decision
6) Portfolio link did not work
We would like to encourage you to apply again in the future when the above criterion are met.
Sincerely,
Palmer Barr - Founder - Design Outpost

Well, except to wait a few years
Palmer, if you get so many people applying why not set a benchmark - for instance have about 25 posts on the forum before you can submit. That way you might also get an idea who is stepping in. Sorry if this has been discussed before.

You never know. Most of our designers are over 25.

True , but in two to three years time the oppertunity may arise to work a full time position for a business offering website and graphic design, you just never know what's around the corner

Indeed you never know. But if this is the thing you want to do, you're maybe better of going to Uni and get a degree before you go out there. You probably get a placement through your course and who knows it might land you a job. It (sort of) did for me! Best of luck.

Hopefully you aren't like me who (1) will be graduating with a CS degree in May but doesn't really like CS and (2) attended a school who doesn't have much to offer for Web Site Design. Ahhh, the joys of finding a job.
Good luck in whichever way you go!

Do you see where honesty comes into this? I could have totally lied on my application and had more of a chance of being on the design team, however I chose the honest path....Still no joy, but a clear conscience >:]

That's why we don't have the age requirement listed on the application. Suddenly everyone is 18
I had a 15 year old apply last week and after I sent him the rejection letter he applied the next day with the same name, email address and portfolio but now he's 18
I may be old but I still have some short term memory left
