Hi There,

No need to introduce myself, I guess, as my logo was made here at DO. But oke for the newcomers: I am the lady who is crazy about........ rabbits

Here is the deal: I am looking for a banner for the website RabbitPal.com. It will be used in the first place for a banner exchange network to introduce RabbitPal.com to a broader public.
Price money: $35

RabbitPal.com is dedicated to all the shelters doing their utmost to rescue and rehome abandoned and unwanted rabbits. Not much people are aware of the fact that numerous rabbits are waiting for a good and loving home. RabbitPal.com gives rabbit shelters the opportunity to post pictures of their adoptable rabbits for free, and to post stories about situations they encounter as a shelter.
Also it lists stories of owners who have rescued a rabbit from a shelter or from miserable circumstances, so to inform other future rabbitowners that rescued rabbits can be great pets as well. The site contains a lot of links to rabbit rescue shelters and other rabbit related websites (and is still growing every day).

People looking for a rabbit, can search through the database of listed rabbits and contact the shelter directly if they are interested.

I am looking for a banner of 468x60, size max. 20K.
My logo (.ai and .eps) can be downloaded [removed] As I am not good in slogans or taglines I leave that up to your creative minds.

The banner should have a professional, but warm look (you can use the colors which were used for the website or any other colour you think would do the trick) and should attrack both the shelters (so they want to join up) and people who are looking for a bunny.

I know $35 is not much, but as the website is non-profit related all costs are my own.

BUT................ an animal banner must be a challenge for every designer and a most have in your portfolio!!

Looking forward to your entry,

regards,

Marie-Jose,

Hello Deanna,

Thanks for entering! and for being the first

I like the positioning of the logo and the color of the border and the green "hilly" ground. I am not that crazy about that blue color although I presume it presents the air. It does not fit into the overall layout of RabbitPal.com. Maybe better to use the light yellow (from the login box) or the color of the menu-box?

Also I do believe too much text is animated now. It takes too long before someone can read the complete message. I can see why you did it as you tried to include all relevant information about RabbitPal.com into the text. I like the phrase "love rabbits? So do we....". Maybe some text that one can search for a rabbit?

Or how about making the banner with one text focussed on future bunny owners and the other text focussed on rabbit rescue shelters?
Maby a picture of a real rabbit will make it somewhat more professional?

Just some thoughts I came up with when looking at your entry, Deanna.

Hopefully you will give it another try ??

regards,

MJ

Hi Brian the Bannerman

LOL - that is a very clever way! Hopefully people don't want to adopt those rabbits as they are my own

I like your idea, but somehow I want to combine the banners (the text that is).

How about something like: Looking for a Rabbit?
Rehome and adopt from a rabbit shelter today

or something along those lines.

The size of the banner should be max. 20K, at least that is what this banner exchange network for animals has set as a requirement. Your banners would be just a tiny bit too big.

May I ask if you tried different colors for the font background or did this white outline (the sentence " save a rabbit today") turned out to be the best viewable? Would you be willing to experiment with that somewhat more?

Looking forward to your 'updated' entries, Brian! And thanks for joining my contest. My rabbits Puk and Happy certainly enjoyed it.

regards,

MJ

Hello Marie-Jose,

Glad you, Puk and Happy like what I've come up with so far.

Below is a revised version. I've tried different background colors for the "Save a Rabbit Today" and feel white was a good choice, but here another one. The color is taken from the Menu background from your site.

I really dig that your into helping animals. My mother runs the Pet Shelter (Cats & Dogs) where she lives. I did some volunteer work (physical labor ) for them last year.

Let me know what you think.

File size is 19.03k a whole 0.97k to spare

Hi Brian the Bannerman

Thanks for the changes. You were right about the white outline for the text. I must learn to listen to designers better

The animation is set up in three 'actions'. I would prefer having two actions. I myself do not like it when I have to wait before I see what the banner is all about.

How about leaving out those balloons and just the text:
Looking for a rabbit? (first action)

Save a Rabbit Today and
Adopt from a Rabbit Shelter (second text)

At the moment your banner is a bit too crowded in my humble opinion.

Would you give this another try, pleaaassse!
Your mother is doing a great job as well. Unfortunatley there are no rabbit shelters in our neighborhood and I have not much time left (working fulltime) so I thought the internet to be a great solution for helping out!
Physical labor in a shelter is rewarding too. Hopefully the dogs & cats liked it

MJ

Hi Anne,

Thanks for entering

Like you said: simple and clean.......... and I like it!
I like the animation on Banner 1 the best.

Some minor changes I would like to see changed:
- Could the logo be made somewhat bigger (just a tiny tiny bit but just so that the word .com can be read?
- Could you center the text "Looking for a Rabbit?". In my eyes it is positioned somewhat more to the left now.
- Is it possible to include somewhere the name of the website. F.I. under the words " looking for a rabbit" and then something like: Check out or try (or whatever is a catching sentece) RabbitPal.com (maybe if, then in the color green as with the text " from a rabbit shelter today")
or maybe it is better to have the complete address somewhere shown; www.rabbitpal.com

Not quite sure, but maybe you can play around with it?

I really like what you did, Anne !! It looks a very sophisticated and professional banner due to its simplicity. Thanks!

regards,

MJ

Hi Anne,

wow, that is quick

I prefer banner # 2. I like the placement of www.rabbitpal.com. good solution!

No further changes needed for the moment. If I decide to go with you, I only would like to make the logo smaller again as I don't like it that its ears are now cut off (obviously because you wanted to make .com more readable), but this issue is now also solved by the placement of www.rabbitpal.com in the right corner.

Thanks, Anne! It is really nice working with you

I also very much like the one with the grass , but well 32K is too big for this banner exhange network in which I want to participate. A pity!!!

MJ

No further changes necessary at the moment.

I will check whether LonelyRabbit is still 'in ' this contest and then probably I will make up my mind.

Hi,

Lonelyrabbit
Can I still expect an entry from you? I hope so!

Any other designers maybe:
Julie ?
Deplex ?

I know you two have participated recently in other banner contests, so maybe you would like to give it a try as well?

regards,

MJ

Hello hairyiguana,

Thanks for entering! Really appreciated

I like the idea with the grass and that the logo is been put on a non-white background, making it more sticking out (especially the 'caring' hand).

- I am not that fond on that blue though, because it does not match very well with the overall look of the website.
- The rabbit on the right that you have incorporated into the banner is a typical wilde hare.
My website focuses solely on domestic rabbits or house rabbits. The rabbit pictured can never be kept at home as it is too wild. It is a nice picture! but not right for this banner.
(maybe a cute picture of two house-rabbits would do the trick).

My rabbit Happy was in love with your banner because you have given him a prominent spot in the banner

Marie-Jose

Hi Derek (=lonelyrabbit),

That's quick
I like the color flow (also from logo to the rest of the banner) and how you incorporated the website name. No further changes necessary for now! (maybe text changes but this can easily be done afterwards). I really appreciate you came up with someting although you are very busy at the moment.

To all contest joiners
I will have a look at all entries again and will let you know my decision by Thursday July 9th!
So far I am really satisfied with what you have come up with !

Entries are still most welcome be it that you should be quick as Thursday is Decisionday!

regards,

Marie-Jose

Hello Hairyiguana,

now, that is much much better, don't you think?
Nice looking 'normal' houserabbit and very nice green color.

Thanks for updating your banner that quick. It is among my favorites.

Regards,

MJ
