I'm sure many of you plan to enter this contest, but being that the deadline is July 25th, it seems that many of you are waiting.

I just wanted to let you know that I have posted numerous contests in the past in which the first entry was selected as the winner. So don't be afraid to make the first submission. Of course, this doesn't mean you'll win, but don't feel like you have to wait for other entries to enter.

Also note, the winner for this contest will be selected within a day or two after contest closes (unlike my other contests where I usually take a week or two). Please include whether or not you will be able to code with X/HTML and CSS.

Here is my entry.

Nice and colorful. Easy to navigate. I incorporated all of the features you asked for.

If you would like to see any revisions, just let me know. :-)

EDIT: About the xhtml... As long as you mean validating xhtml and not a layout without tables, I can do it.

Thanks for the feedback so fast. Here are the revisions.

I think I got them all in. :-)

I made the border of the search thicker so that it stands out over the other link banks.

Did you want to have a second hot deals area? You mentioned having one under the cart area?

I was thinking about putting and image on right side of the header area where the logo is. I figured you would not want to have a specific printer or printer cartridge there. Do you want an image there?

If you need other revisions or want me to try something else, let me know.

Thanks for the further feedback.

I will complete these revisions this evening or when I get home from work tomorrow.

As for #6. That's no problem. I would rather reserve that for if I win, as I will have to adjust eveything some to accomodate that.

No problem.

In regards to trying a second entry. You can choose to do that if you wish. The more entries you make, the more of yours I'll have to choose from at the end.

I do like the existing one. It's a question of whether or not you'd like to submit more. That's solely up to you.

Here are revisions.

I changed the logo up so that it's very readable. I tried using a stroke on the text to make it stand apart from the design that was behind it, but it did not look good. Of course, if you like that more than what I have done now, I can change it back.

I think the design looks good like this aligned to the left side with the dark background. The background really contrasts well with the other colors and make the whole thing stand out.

I used a similar picture to the one you liked from that other site.

If you want to see anything else, let me know.

Hi JeremeDavid,

It's excellent. No additional changes at this time. Unless of course you come up with your own improvements, then feel free to show me them. If you win, there would be a few very minor ones.

Thank you very much for your hard work.

Hi Anne,

I'm impressed, and definitely like it. However, there would have to be some changes made in order to win. I'll try to list as many I can think of:

1. The whole top area looks unfinished. I'm refering to the free shipping offer, as well as the "basket, my account, help" links. I'm not sure what you could do to spice those up, but they seem to be missing something. Perhaps some kind of tabs or something might give them a better look. Also, I'm wondering if the overall layout would look better if there wasn't that empty white area at the top, and instead the header started from the very top pixel.

2. Please increase the width of the "content" area by about 50%. Also, when you make the window smaller or view in lower resolutions, the shopping cart and newsletter box should move itself all the way to the edge of the content area. Hope that makes sense.

3. The header in general looks sort of plain. The printer is just kind of "there" (although it's not too bad). And the text/logo could definitely use some improvement. (I know I said it's a temporary logo)... but the current one just doesn't make the layout look as good as it could.

I hope I have been very open and honest in these changes. I think we can definitely improve it by doing these.

After I see how these changes come out, I may make a few more suggestions. Hope this helps!

P.S. I REALLY like the look of your buttons!

JeremeDavid,

If you want a chance to slightly improve your design, try the following (very minor):

1. The photo in the upper right hand corner isn't great. It's a good picture, but it's dark. The layout is so bright and colorful but the photo is mostly black. Perhaps you can lighten it or simply find a much lighter photo? At this point, I think it would look better WITHOUT any photo than with the current one. It just doesn't seem to fit right. (Update: Try the MIDDLE one in this picture - http://www.hardwarezoom.com/images/r...to_Cat-Fix.jpg - and maybe increase its brightness)

2. Make the gap between the search box and the [SELECT] dropdown half the size. (by removing a couple pixels). Put the search box on TOP of the [SELECT] list. Change the world [SELECT] to manufacturer. Change the border size around the whole search box to the same border size as the other boxes.

3. Add a total to the shopping cart area on the bottom.

4. I think I want to remove the low opacity text that reads "GREAT DEALS & SAVINGS". I'm hoping it will still look good without it. Please try.

5. Make the free shipping banner 468x60 pixels by expanding the whole layout. If that's too much work, you can just hold off on that (until and if you win).

Hi and thank you for the feedback.

- The "content" area is suppose to strech to fit the width of the screen on the finished design.

- For the top area, I was going for a clean look but I will add some tabs and/or maybe some icons.
- I am not very good in making logos but I'll try to imrove it

I'll make the changes later today but now I got to get some sleep (been up all night)

Made some changes.

- Added tabs to the top links
- Mover "FREE Shipping ..." down to the header area
- A said before, I'm not good in logo design but gave it another shot ...
- some other small adjustments to the header.

Hi Anne,

Thanks for the changes. It's 100% better than the original entry. I have a feeling this will be a very tough choice. I like both entries very much so far.

Great work to all. Can't wait to see the rest.

Great!

Thanks deplex.

UPDATE: Ok, this is important. I want to portray the message that we have FASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST service. Lets put a quote or something thats well visible on the layouts.

"The fastest ink store on the net!"

Please note... today (Sunday) is the last day to enter this contest.

Sunday, July 25th. All entries must be in by 12 Midnight EST. Therefore, you only have approximately 24 more hours (from this post) to submit your entries.

deplex and koolbrian, I look forward to seeing something from you guys, along with anyone else who decides on joining this one.

Also note, a winner will be chosen next day (Monday).

Here it is,
It might also be coded as a flexible one so it'd stretch.
I didnt want to include too much graphics, this osrt of site needs to load quick etc.
You can add as many menu items as you wish in the future.

Hi deplex,

Nice submission. It's going to make my decision very tough. Here are some changes for you:

1. Shrink credit card logos at least 25%, they're a little too jumbo.
2. Add this logo somewhere, perhaps by the credit cards, perhaps under the left navigation, or perhaps under the newsletter area (http://www.web-hosting-today.com/ima...trust_logo.gif).
3. Remove the "input your name" box from the newsletter and put some text stating that they will receive their first coupon code within minutes.
4. Add a manufacturer drop down list under the search box. This is WITHIN the same box as the search.
5. I think the last change would be the biggest one. I'm hoping you can try something different for the whole top navigation. It doesn't look bad per say, but I'm hoping we can improve it even more, or simply give us a second choice for that top navigation.
