template for on-line shop for games (PC/Xbox/PS2) - $250

(Admin code added by Palmer - TY0552418)

Hello. This is my second template contest!!!

This contest is for the design of an on-line shop
for games (PC,XboX, Play Station, etc). This shop will
feature a full shopping cart, with the ability to use credit
cards (Visa, MasterCard, VeriSign SSL, etc). Everything
in the site will be loaded from a database.

I will program the html code. I just need the whole template
with its images in photoshop (PSD) files. I will translate your
buttons and everything into greek (with my own fonts if this
is necessary), so I must have the layered PSD files.

Abstract:
--------------
This contest is for two (2) template pages – The "first page" and
the "product page".

Of course the top / left / right / bottom menus will be the same
in every page.

All we need is a proposal about how we should position the
various boxes of information in these pages.

Sites we like:
-------------------------
1. http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=front&r=PS2
2. http://www.gamestop.com/

we like this amazon-style look. It's very intuitive.

Site we DON'T like
--------------------------
http://www.estarland.com/

This site is packed with information... while www.play.com is
clean and professional.

Mood or tone?:
-----------------
Professional on-line shop, dynamic, fast loading.

My client likes round edges!!! (3D kind style, like the
top menu buttons in www.play.com). He really wants round edges!!!

Preferred colours: variation of orange!
He likes almost all the colours used in www.play.com.
White background preferably.

Deliverables:
----------------------
- fully Layered Photoshop .PSD files

- small sized version (.GIF) of the above PSD files.
(I can get those from photoshop of course)

- colour codes for everything in the site
(I can also get those from photoshop myself)

Additional info:
--------------------------
1. All the buttons must be easy for me to change. A simple text
layer in photoshop, so that I can use my Greek fonts (with the same
layer effects you have used!) for the greek version.

2. The shopping cart will be visible in every page under the
left or right menu (you can see this in www.play.com if you
press buy on a couple of products).

3. The "Shopping cart" button, must be slightly different from the
others.

4. We also need all the buttons for the ordering process, after
the user presses "check out" in the shopping cart:

Buy it
Buy product
Check out
Remove (...product from shopping cart)
Delete order
Update (...quantities in shopping cart)
Back to the shop
Next page
Previous page
Next page -> (with an arrow)
<- Previous page (with an arrow)

Submit order ---> (With an arrow. Final button that completes the
ordering procedure. It must be different from the others!)

5. A login box ("username", "password" and "submit"-button) must be
present in the template...

6. Verisign, Visa and MasterCard logos must appear somewhere to denote
that they are supported/accepted by the online shop.

7. Fluid vs fixed width design ??? I'm not sure! The
client gets to choose the one he likes.

8. Company name: unknown !!! He has not decided yet. I will
provide you with this information as soon as I have it, but don't
take it into account now.

For the time being, I can only provide a stupid, bad (GIF) version
of the company's old logo. This logo will change, but you can use
this one for your proposals:

9. Please use real descriptions and photos of products in you the samples.
The client must be able to understand how the site will be.

10. Product categories are: "GAMES", "CONSOLES", "HARDWARE PARTS"
GAME sub-categories are: "PC", "XBOX", "PS2", "GAMECUBE", "GAMEBOY ADVANCED"

11. We must have ALL rights to the design when the contest is over
but the designer may use the template in his portfolio!

Please, tell me if you need any more information from
us. I can provide you with anything you need. I will
post DETAILED feedback on EVERY submission.

CONTEST END = Monday, November 8, 2004
CONTEST PRIZE = $250.00 (US)

Please let me know if you plan to enter!

In your description, you didn't include what should be presented in the homepage but login and cart boxes. Should we copy the boxes like in play.com

Cool

Hi to Luc and V+E+R+T !!!!
Thank you for your interest!

We have not really decided how the first page will
be. Just go ahead and copy the main information
boxes from play.com... Any idea is welcome.

But please try to give me 8 real products with their
small photos and descriptions (perhaps 4 of them will be
"featured products", with some kind of different border or something)

Anyone else that will join ?

I believe Reseller forum, are only for those CHs who wants to keep their projects/contests privates. Entries and winning designs cannot be use in our portfolios with their name and logo on.

Hello again.

I know it would be better if I became a private client (reseller),
but I am worried about the participation in the contest.
I want as much templates as possible, to show to my
client. If designers do enter competitions where they
don't get to show their entries in their portfolios,
then I would love to become a private client and never
have to worry about my client finding out designoutpost.

to all designers: the name will be "game explorers".
Most probably the logo will change, but I will know about
that in a few days...

comments for anne's design:
------------------------------------
He liked it, although he said it needs some polishing. His comments:
Can you change your buttons to something more vivid (perhaps a bit
rounder, more 3D perspective). About their color, how about trying
a bit more red in the orange version of them? (He said he wants them
more "playful" and "vivid")

Also, can you please try using the platform's logos in the
top menu, next to the labels:

...(images removed)...

[and please create one ...along these lines - black maybe] for PC

Perhaps try to color these labels with their respective logo
color (green for Xbox, blue for PS2, purple for gameboy advanced
and darkblue for gamecube). I'm not sure this is going to look
nice... Just give a try and see if it fits!

Also, can you try to use these colors in your proposal a bit more ?
I know this is vague, but this is what he told me. Perhaps use
the Xbox green in a couple of spots, and so on with the other
colors.

Finally, can you try something different for the main font? Perhaps
a different font, or a different color, or both.

Thank you very much for entering, I am eagerly waiting for your
response. ...and I am still waiting for other designers to join!.

A COUPLE OF THINGS I FORGOT

Some more comments for Anne :
---------------------------------------------------
1. Please remove the "HOME" choice from the top menu....

2. Also, add a "GAME EXPLORERS" info box in the left menu
(above the shopping basket) with the options: "Contact us",
"How to order", "Delivery information", "Advanced search",
"Terms and Conditions", etc...

3. Move "newsletter signup"-box to the right menu.

4. Create a "Chart menu" box (like the one in www.play.com)
in the right menu and place it above the "best sellers" info box.

5. Remove one of the two editboxes near the "search
this site", and create a drop down with the platform names
(XBOX, PC, etc). Perhaps this would look good to the right of
the template, with a label "Browse for games only for: " or
something like that.

6. Put an "Edit Shopping Basket" button in the shopping basket,
so that buyers can change quantities, remove products from
the cart and stuff like that.

I hope I am not confusing you....

Cool comments....

To all designers:
-------------------------
I posted a logo contest for this project. Check it
out at:

http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/...&threadid=5728

We also need a template for a magic cards ("yugioh" and "magic the gathering"),
that will most probably have a similar design with the video-games site.
I will either raise the money, or post a separate contest for it.

comments for anne:
----------------------
Hello anne. A few more changes:

1. Can you please make the "Games" button in the
top menu be "light" (glowing somehow to denote that
its pressed) ? This will of course happen to the
"consoles" or "Hardware parts" button when they are
pressed.

2. In your "login" box, can you make the "username" and
"password" editboxes of equal size ? The "username" is too
long... Maybe half size will do.

3. The "Browse for games only" background color must be
the same as the game category the user chooses (GAMECUBE
in your sample).

4. I believe you previous labels for "Game Explorers",
"Login", "Shopping Basket", etc.... were better than
the last ones. They were rounder!

5. Finally, can you put a small description of the games in
"New releases" ?

comments for BrianDove:
----------------------
Hi. Thanks for entering:

1. Can you provide me with a revision with a few
more games? More "featured games" and below it. With small
real descriptions and titles please...

2. Can you change your blue color for "Shopping Basket",
"TOP sellers" and the "GAMES" tab, ...perhaps a variation of
orange would be better?

3. A little "quick search" box is missing. Can you
place that somewhere in your design ? The advertisement
banner is rather large, by the way...

4. Finally, can you give your labels (Shopping basket, TOP
sellers, Chart, etc) a little more 3D perspective ?

Any other designers that want to enter ? There
is pleanty of time...

Cool

Hello everybody.

This contest has come to an end. My client is thinking
about who the winner will be. I will get back to you
tommorow.

I will announce the winner, but we still have some revisions to
do, and also design the product page (I believe it is going to
be easy, it will be based on the template you have allready
posted, same borders, colours and the rest)

This client also wants an on-line shop for cards:

magic the gathering

and

YUGIOH

If you are not familiar with them, you can check them out at

http://www.findmagiccards.com/

it is a simple product (image, title, small description and price)

These two web sites will feature banners that send visitors
from one website to the other, also they will have simmilar logos
and kind of similar designs. I will post a separate contest for
this web site, unless it is a good idea to post it in here and
raise the money for this contest. What do you think ?

Thank you for participating.

And the winner is...

Ann

He had a hard time choosing the winner.

Once again I am very satisfied with the quality of your
work. I wish I could pay you all for your work.

Ann, we now have to work the revisions for it. A couple
of quick changes:

1st) I need the product page.

2nd) The two categories "GAMECUBE" and "PS2" are
both blue, and they don't look too good together. How
about changing the background color for "GAMECUBE" to
a variation of red, so that each category has a different color ?

After you make these two things, you will have to send me the
psd files so that I canl work the greek version and see for any
more changes (revisions) that I need.

Thank you all very much!

Sorry Ann.... I made a mistake!
I should have described clearly what I meant by saying "product
page" !

The product page, is the one that come's up fully describing
one game. For example:

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=281096

http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=m...2&title=180999

Every game has a title, description, technical features, price,
thumbnail photo (the large version of it opens in a new window)
probably some extra photos, user reviews, and consoles that
it is availabe for.

"buy" , "submit your review", etc buttons should appear.

Also, a sign indicating that this game is available as
new or as used with their respective prices (new and used)

I'm sorry for not being clear about it before. Btw, I liked
what you posted! I would like you to send this too in your
final files if that is ok with you.
