[Designer Chosen] dotcomcafe logo $200.00

(Admin code added by Michael - 432625504X)

I am starting a new web design business targetting small businesses in my local area. I want the logo to reflect professionalism but I would like it to be arty, trendy and funky at the same time if possible.

Business Name is Dot Com Cafe and the website (which is not developed yet) will be at dotcomcafe.com.au.

Some requirements / preferences:

2 or 3 colours and black/white

Not sure what formats I require, definitely want a PSD (for me) but unsure what printers/other designers want etc, maybe someone can guide me, I will be getting business cards and letterheads designed here at a later date.

I would like dotcomcafe (all one word) but each word segregated by a different font, colour or weight maybe. And maybe not necessarily all the words, just the com or the cafe.

I would like some sort of symbol/motif incorporated in the logo, I do prefer abstract things / representations. Ideally I'd like to be able to separate that and use it as a watermark on my site or on a letterhead.

I'm not sure whether a slogan is necessary or not. I'll think about that, I'd need to see it. I haven't thought of anything in particular, something like 'web design and development' but I feel that's a bit stiff and/or long.

I like modern fonts / lightweight (no fat fonts please) and I do prefer lowercase or a mixture of lower and uppercase but not capitalised words. Again I'd need to see it.

I like all colours as long as they're visually appealing in their context. Just some examples say 82A3B3, D3B05C and D97D18 OR 835394, 829349 and BB7835 OR E6E77C and 8B0400 but I'm certainly not limited to these.

I don't want - 3d logos, gradients and technical looking logos.

Let me know if you need more information

Thank you
Regards
Janelle

Hi Janelle. Welcome to the D.O. Do you have any deadline or timeframe in mind for this prject?

In the meantime, why not spin off the dot concept using your sets of three colors? Dots can easiily be watermarked, allowing you to use the elements separately if necessary.

Just a thought...

The deadline is the 11th March 2005.

Thanks for starting things off Aaron I'll post some feedback on your entry soon after I've thought about it a bit more.

Cheers

Thank you Aaron and Tonya for your entries

Aaron
Concept 1 - I prefer (A) but feel the colours of the dots are too dark. I envisioned those colours as text. Could you please play around with that concept but use lighter colurs for the dots and/or white for the text (but that mightn't work with lighter dots?). Or could you combine text on it's own with smaller dots, say for in the o's of the dot and com?
Concept 2 - just a bit busy for me

Tonya
I like the font and the dot/arrow. Due to legal reasons I need to have the actual words dot com cafe in the logo. I like how the dot/arrow looks in black/white and by itself. I am wondering what it would look like with dot com on one line and cafe underneath with the arrow/dot positioned next to it OR integrated it in the 'o' of the dot (might be too small) or if you have any other ideas please. If possible, I wouldn't mind seeing a couple of other colour combos (not necessarily the ones I suggested).

Hope my feedback's not too confusing

I think I initially stated in my opening post that I wanted dot com cafe all on one line but after thinking about it, that's now not a necessity.

Cheers
Janelle

Here's a lightr set. If we go much darker, we'll lose the text.

Thanks for the revision Aaron and your entry Paula

Aaron
I like those better but they're not grabbing me. If you were so inclined, could you try something totally different.

Paula
I prefer the first one out of the three. I like it but it's not quite conveying what I want. I'm not sure whether it's the font, the cup or both. If you were to change the font to something more modern, I'm not sure whether it would then go with the cup. I like the steam and the blacked out coffee inside the cup with the "com" written in it. Not sure if the shape of the cup's not working for me or if it's too bold or defined. Something a bit more abstract might work better? But after all that - I will say - I'm not into the font

Thanks guys,

Cheers
Janelle

I'd actually tried the graphic in all 3 of these positions, but ended up settling on the graphic on top with the ".comcafe" text. But now having to spell out "dotcomcafe", I think I like it best with the graphic incoporated into "dot". See what you think:

Thank you for the revisions Paula and Tona and the new entry Samoyloff!

Paula
None of those grab me Out of all your entries, I still prefer the very first entry in your first post but it's not exactly what I'm after. I don't like the font. I'm after something a cleaner / streamlined / modern? If you were to have any other ideas, I'd really love to see them - I do like your work alot!

Samoyloff
First impression was, 'that's nice but it's a bit cutesy'. I think it might be the colours that gave me that impression, not sure (BUT I do like the colours). I do like the diagonal stripes, the cup and the handle. I also like the font. Not sure about the 'c' joining up with the cup. Could you try it with different colours and moving the 'c' away from the cup. Thanks! And if you can incorporate slogan web design and development somewhere too if possible.

Tonya
refer .comcafe #2..I definitely prefer 'C' (like yourself). Could I see it with 'B' colour combos. And then could I see it with a slogan underneath starting at the arrow with say web design and development but keeping in line with the bottom of the arrow (might end up too small)? but could you try?

Thanks everyone!
Regards
Janelle

Thanks for more entries everyone!

Aaron
Thank you for having another go I really like this. Not sure I can offer any feedback - there isn't anything to change or add that I can see right now. If you'd like to show me other colours and / or fonts if you've got time - otherwise I don't think changing anything else will make it look any better.

Fabian
Thanks for joining in! That's closest concept I had in mind prior to starting this competition. I don't think I can offer you anything that's going to improve that logo - maybe you can The concern I have now, after starting this, is the 'cafe' in the business name and being associated with a cafe as such. Whereas, say, Aarons and Tonya's logos may be more standard to the industry. For me, visually and artistically yours is my favourite so far but it might not be necessarily the right way to go.

Quirk Design
Thank you for joining in! I like the colours alot. It may be a bit too technical looking. I'm not sure if it's the dot symbol or the squareish font. Could you change the font but keep the dot and colours please?

Cheers
Janelle

Hi Fabian,

Thanks for another entry!

I'm sorry but I don't like the mouse and mouse pad I feel it's a bit too generic.

Hi Samoyloff,

Thanks for the revision I prefer the brighter colours and I like how you've done the slogan underneath. I just feel it's a bit 'blocky' - might be the cup or could be the shading underneath. I might think about it for a while unless you can think of a way to make it a bit 'sleeker'

Cheers

Thanks everyone for the revisions and the new entries!

I'm going to have to think about this for a while .

I do have some feedback;

Fabian
Could I see some variations on your first entry (cup) with and without the slogan.

Aaron
Could I see your last entry with the slogan on one line underneath the logo in smaller text.

Paula
Could I see your #4 (first design)
- without the mouse (leave steam/tail)
- without the mouse and steam/tail

And later on today I will get back to:
Paula #5
QuirkDesign
Samoyloff
Eizey

I can't thank you guys enough for the quality of the entries

Regards
Janelle
