[DzC2][Designer Chosen] Golden Retriever Rescue - $125

(Admin code added by Palmer - N169151N)

This is our second time around. Our canine rescue is in need of an identity re-do. We had commissioned a new logo here last year with great results, but subsequently found that it was too similar to one that already belongs to another organization, so we're back to the drawing board.

The logo design desired should be a simple line drawing of a smiling golden retriever, looking straight on, peering over a fence, a gate, or out a window frame. The only part of the dog that should be visible are head and paws. The name of the organization, "Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Rescue" should be incorporated within the fence, gate or window frame (whichever of these framing devices is used.

The intent is to represent a happy dog safe at home. The gate, window frame or fence can represent security.

We're interested in going for some impact while retaining a simple design. This design will be used in business cards, newsletters, t-shirts and other identity items.

We'll need final work back in jpg, eps & gif formats.

Hopefully that's enough info to get started!

A great start!

It looks like you've captured most of the elements we asked for (dog peeking over the fence, etc.). I think this would be a little closer to our vision if the overall look were a bit softer. Perhaps a muter gold, and less dark, black lines. If the 'fence' could look a bit more 'fence-like' and friendly, that would help, too. Are these comments too obtuse?

Very interesting...

Regarding the Penny Lane submission: This treatment seems to diverge a bit from what our board had been thinking of, but when I ran this version by them, there was quite a bit of interest. The comments on this were very positive, and some suggestions were posed for changes to make this one a little closer to what we were looking for:

1. Although we had originally 'envisioned' the logo to carry the image of an adult dog, the folks found the puppy image very appealing except this one looks a little 'cranky'. We do rescue aggressive dogs from time to time, but want to put our best foot forward, so if the pup's countenance could be a tad happier, that would work better.

2. The rescue organization is affiliated with the main breed club, but is separate. In this logo treatment, in the caption, much more prominence is given to the name of the club than "rescue". Is there some way, through creative use of the fonts, sizes, other devices, etc. that the name of the club (Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles) could be represented, but the word "Rescue" receive a bit more prominence?

3. Could the arch over the top of the dog be molded a bit into a stylized home/house/haven? Perhaps a rooftop outline, or window sash? I think the place we're going is to convery our mission of finding safe homes for our dogs, so the suggestion of the safe home/yard in the logo would be more in keeping with what we're going for?

Does that make sense?

Rustytrap, this comment must be about my entry, right? I will sure make the overall look softer on the lines suggested by you, and submit soon!

We Have A Winner!

Our BOD has decided to go with the Penny Lane Graphics submission. Although it went down a different path than we'd orginally envisioned, this is the one that really grabbed everyone. We still need a couple of minor revisions (the puppy still looks a bit cranky!), but we're almost there.

Thanks to Chocolate for participating and so faithfully rendering our wishes!

We just need a happier puppy!

The group is really very pleased with the overall design, but just wants to make the puppy's 'attitude' a bit happier! The expression on this pup is a bit 'stern', so we'd need that softened up a bit.

Would it help to have some photos of pups that have the look we're going for?

Thanks,

barbara

Photos of Goldens

Some excellent examples of pups and dogs photos can be found at our main club's web site at http://www.grcgla.org/default.htm and at our rescue's web site at www.grcglarescue.org. Goldens are known for their 'smile', so I'm sure you'll be able to find lots of examples in these locations. The 'subject' in the logo doesn't have to be a pup, but a great smile is most important!

Thanks for your patience through this process!

Hi, there,

I posted the links to the web sites containing the puppy/dog photos you could use as a reference here some time ago. Will we be able to wrap the revisions up shortly? We would really like to put a finished product into production soon.

THanks.
